Driving directions are available on our directions page. If you are driving from Boston airport during the day, we highly recommend taking Hwy 93 through the beautiful White Mountains. Hwy 93 ends at Hwy 91 which you should take South to the Barnet exit.

Here are the nearest major airports. NOTE: Even though Burlington and Manchester airports are closer in proximity to Karmê Chöling, we HIGHLY recommend flying into Boston airport or Lebanon Regional airport if you will NOT be renting a car; it is far less work to get here from those locations.

1. Get a bus ticket for your preferred time/date from Montreal to Montpelier, Vermont.
2. From the VT Transit Center in Montpelier, walk 3 minutes to the bus stop just outside the State Street Subway Sandwich chain restaurant (from the Transit Center, walk on Main St. towards State Street, take a left on State Street, Subway is on your left). You will need to catch the bus called Route 84 / US 2 Commuter ($2 U.S. currency on entry). You can check the schedules here.
3. Stay on the Route 84 / US 2 Commuter bus to the last stop, which is the St. Johnsbury Welcome Center in St. Johnsbury Vermont (it takes about an hour and 20 minutes).
4. Have a pick-up arranged from St. Johnsbury Welcome Center to Karme Choling (15-minute car ride). You can arrange a taxi or possibly a local pickup. For more info on that, you can check options below or email Front Desk staff directly.

Apex Car Service

Apex offers rides to Karmê Chöling with pickup from White River Junction, VT, Hanover, NH or Lebanon, NH.  By special arrangement and subsidy from Karmê Chöling, the price for travel to or from Karmê Chöling is $89 one-way/$168 round-trip from Hanover, NH.  Add $10 each way for White River Junction, Lebanon, or Lebanon Airport pickups.  Apex accepts credit cards.  20% gratuity not included. This reduced rate is available to you 7 days a week from 8am until 8pm. Higher rates may apply outside of these hours.

They also offer rides to Karmê Chöling with pickup from Montpelier, VT for $137 one-way.

To make pickup arrangements with Apex, call their reservations line at (603) 252-8294. Arrangements should be made at least 24 hours in advance to ensure receiving the reduced rate.  After hours, holiday and same day service available.

Rural Community Transportation

Rural Community Transportation (RCT) offers pickup service between Karmê Chöling and most nearby towns. Common towns for pickup include: White River Junction, Montpelier, and Burlington, VT; Hanover and Lebanon, NH; and Magog, Quebec.

Cost for one-way travel to Karmê Chöling varies by pickup location and number of passengers: approximately $35 each for two people from White River Junction or Hanover (or $70 for one person); $55 each for two people from Burlington (or $110 for one person), etc. Please inquire about the cost when you make your reservation. You will need to make a reservation at least a week in advance.

How to charter a ride using RCT:

1. Determine a pickup location (see above for common locations). You can request to be picked up from a specific location: White River Junction bus station, Hanover Inn, Burlington Airport, etc.
2. Call RCT at (802) 748-8170.
3. Ask to make a “Client Pay” reservation for pickup at the location, date and time you have determined, to go to “Karmê Chöling.”
4. Make the reservation at least a week in advance. RCT does not accept credit cards, so allow enough time for them to receive your check or money order before your pickup.
5. If you do not make a reservation in time to send advance payment, RCT will send a bill to Karmê Chöling after your ride, but will require a signed authorization form from Karmê Chöling before arranging your ride. In any case, you must call and schedule your ride at least 1 week in advance, or RCT will not be able to work your pickup into their schedule.

Please note: Prices will vary, so inquire when you make your reservation. Be certain to cancel your reservation if necessary; both RCT and Apex will require payment if you neglect to cancel a prearranged pickup. RCT does not accept credit cards.

Vermont Tour and Charter

Vermont Tour and Charter offers pickup from Burlington International Airport and delivery to Karmê Chöling. One-way fee is $130. Reserve a shuttle through their website, or call (802) 734-1293. Give at least 48 hours advance notice.
