The Land
Karmê Chöling rests on 700 acres of gently rolling countryside in the Northeast Kingdom of rural Vermont. Lush forests, clear streams, and open meadows welcome retreatants to rejuvenate their senses and connect with the beauty of the natural world. From the renowned rich autumn colors to the deep quiet of winter and the vibrancy of life all around in spring and summer, this land gives rise to magic in all four seasons.
In addition to the main shrine halls and residential building, there are eight solitary retreat cabins nestled into secluded areas on the land, available year round. A traditional Japanese archery range for “standing meditation” and Zen rock garden grace the grounds outside the main residence. And an abundant one-acre organic garden provides over a hundred varieties of herbs, flowers, and vegetables each year.
Also, for those who like to get out into the woods, there are 6 hiking trails that range in difficulty from gentle to vigorous.
Ripened by several generations of practitioners and blessed by many great teachers for over forty five years, the land at Karmê Chöling remains a constant source of wakefulness and delight for our worldwide community.
