2020: The year of the iron mousePlease join us to celebrate Shambhala Day and welcome in the new year!

This year, Karmê Chöling will play host to the live broadcast, hosted by Trinley Busby and our new Executive Director Betsy Railla.

Shambhala Day marks the beginning of the New Year and is one of the most important celebrations in Shambhala Buddhism. Based on the traditional Tibetan New Year, Losar, the day is calculated astrologically according to the lunar calendar.

Schedule for the Day

9am: Lhasang at Stupa Site

9:45: Shambhala Sadhana 

11:00: Brunch

12:15: Gather in Main Shrineroom

12:30: Doors closed, Practice (Please be on time. Due to webcast needs, late seating will not be offered)

1:00: LIVE Webcast 

2:15: Reception in Living Room

There is no charge to attend this event in person, but a $20 donation is suggested.

Program Fee: Free

Payment Policies:
Karmê Chöling has updated its payment policies. The new policies apply to all programs that start after January 1, 2019. Please read the payment policies before proceeding with registration.

Financial Aid:
Karmê Chöling offers full-time student discounts, scholarships and other financial aid.

Program Credit:
If using existing program credit to pay for a program, you must pre-register for this program at least two weeks prior to the program start date by calling the front desk (802-633-2384 x3000). Program credit may not be used to pay for housing or practice materials and may not be used on or after arrival day.

About Trinley Busby

Trinley Busby is a student of the Sakyong, Mipham Rinpoche and was appointed a shastri in 2013. She served as director of Awake in Action - Vancouver Shambhala’s office of social action; sat on Vancouver’s governing council; advised on the Ziji Collective International steward’s council; and for the Shambhala Office of Social Engagement.
Before moving to Seattle in 2017 she worked as a frontline service support provider in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside for populations with concurrent mental health and substance abuse challenges experiencing homelessness. Currently Trinley lives in Pittsburgh, PA with her husband Michael and cat, Buster. 

About Karme Choling Executive Director Betsy Railla

Betsy Railla grew up in the woods of West Virginia, enjoying hours outdoors and environmental activism. Inspired by Turning the Mind into an Ally and a very kind friend, Betsy reluctantly attended a Level 1 in 2003 and slowly worked her way through subsequent levels. After earning her masters and pursuing a career in International Development working as a contractor for USAID and WWF, Betsy moved to Shambhala Mountain Center in 2008 to deepen her practice “for a year”. Since then, Betsy has worked at the Boulder Shambhala Center, Shambhala International, and was Shabchi to the Sakyong Wangmo.
